Concrete patio construction in Orem UT - a slab planned for your lot and our winters
Bare dirt out back or an old slab that's cracked and sinking? We'll plan and pour a patio that fits your yard and Utah winters.

Planning a concrete patio in Orem?Start with where it sits

Most calls about concrete patio construction in Orem start with a back door that opens onto dirt, gravel or an old slab that's cracked and sinking. Before we talk about the mix, I want to know where the new patio will sit on your lot and how high its floor will be, since those decide where the city lets it go.
The price moves with the size, how much digging the base needs, how much old concrete has to come out and how high the patio sits. The schedule mostly turns on the weather and on anything the city needs first. I write the estimate out at your place so you can see what's included and what isn't.
The part you won't see is the base, the dug-out and packed ground the slab sits on. Some Utah soils can swell, settle or collapse under a slab after it's built, and that can mean costly repairs or a replacement, so when the budget's tight, I'd rather trim the extras than the base.
Before we pour, you'll know where your patio goes, what's in the mix and what cracking to expect, so call (385) 533-2723 to get started.
The concrete patios we pour
No two backyards sit the same, so we shape each patio around the ground it's on, how high it sits and what has to come out first.
Ground-level patios
A slab at ground level off the back door, on a base we dig out and pack so it doesn't settle. A concrete sidewalk can tie it to the gate.
Raised and covered patios
A floor raised above the yard or put under a roof changes how near your property line it can sit, so we settle both before we dig.
Replacing an old slab
We break out the old slab and figure out why it failed, since a new one on that base usually goes the same way. For a pattern this time, see stamped concrete.

Working with us is mostly a conversation up front, so you know what you're paying for and why before anything gets poured.
I plan it, our crew lead builds it
I come out to look at your yard and plan the patio, and our crew lead runs the work on site with that plan in hand.
Pouring concrete in Orem since 2013
I quoted jobs at a concrete supply yard, then learned the work on a crew, and I started our company here in 2013.
Bids that show what's left out
Your written estimate lists what's included and what isn't, because concrete is hard to undo and nobody wants a surprise after the truck leaves.
Licensed and insured on your property
We're licensed and insured, which is worth asking any contractor about before they bring a crew and a concrete truck into your yard.
Jobs that don't fit the mold
A settled old slab or a cut nobody else wanted to price is the kind of job we're known for, and I'll explain why the problem showed up.

First call to finished patiothe way we run it
You talk the plan through with me and get it in writing before we dig, so you know what you're paying for at every step.
You call or send a message
Call (385) 533-2723 or use the form and tell us about the patio you're picturing and the yard it goes in, and we'll set a time for me to come look.
I look at your yard
I check where the patio will sit and how high it'll be, ask a lot of questions and talk through the mix and the cracking to expect. Then you get it in writing.
Paperwork and base prep
Once you're ready, we sort out anything the city needs, then dig out the old ground or slab and pack the base so the patio has something solid under it.
Our crew lead runs the pour
We place and finish the slab and cut control joints, shallow grooves that give cracks a set line to follow. On a hot day, ask what time we'll pour, since midday heat can leave a weak top.
We walk it together
When it's done, I walk the finished patio with you, go over how to look after it through its first winter and answer anything still on your mind.
Concrete patio questions
How much does a concrete patio cost in Orem?
An installed concrete patio in the Provo area, which takes in Orem, usually costs about $7 to $15 per square foot. That's for the finished patio in place, and where yours lands depends mostly on how much work your ground and your old slab need. The written estimate shows what's in your number.
How close to my property line can a patio go in Orem?
In Orem, an uncovered patio whose floor sits 18 inches or less above the ground can run right up to your side and rear property lines. A higher floor has to stay at least 10 feet back, and a covered patio follows your zone's setbacks, the required distance from the lot line. If your lot is unusual, the city's planning office takes zoning questions at 801.229.7058.
Will my new concrete patio crack?
Probably a little, because national guidance treats some cracking and curling as normal on every concrete slab. Synthetic fibers in the mix can help cut down shrinkage cracks in the first few hours while the concrete is still soft, though they do little once it hardens. That's why I talk through crack control with you before we pour.
How long does a new concrete patio take to cure?
One Michigan concrete group's guide keeps new concrete curing, which means keeping it moist and protected while it gains strength, for seven days at around 70°F. Cooler or hotter weather can call for more or less time, so I'll tell you when your patio is ready based on the weather your pour gets.
How do I protect a new concrete patio from ice melt?
Keep ice melt off it as much as you can until it's a year old, which is what that same Michigan group advises. A patio poured in October or November may not get its 30 days of drying before winter, so use sand for traction that first season. National guidance also says air-entrained concrete, which has air worked into the mix, holds up better to freezing, thawing and the flaking ice melt causes, so it's part of our mix talk.
Do I need a permit for a concrete patio in Orem?
We check with the City of Orem before we schedule your patio, and when a permit is called for, we handle the paperwork and set up inspections with you. The city takes building permit applications online through an account in its submittal system. If you're building it yourself with no general contractor, the city lists an owner-builder certification for that.

Starting your concrete patio early leaves time to settle placement and any city paperwork before cold weather, since a late fall pour means sand instead of ice melt that first winter. Call (385) 533-2723 or send the form.
